The Municipality dispatched water trucks to supply water to the affected communities and farms in the surrounding areas.
Water has been restored to the CBD area of Port Alfred but residents have been requested to use water sparingly.
Ndlambe, like many rural municipalities in the Eastern Cape, including Kouga, has an aging infrastructure that has not received the necessary maintenance over the last few decades.
When there is high demand or a natural disaster, infrastructure tends to collapse.
“This lack of maintenance is generally attributed to lack of funds and that is why the DA policy of increasing Local Government funding to assist Municipalities deliver services is critical”, said Terri Stander, a DA Councillor in Ndlambe.
Jeffreys Bay also experiences water supply problems, particularly in upper Wavecrest where the water is often dirty.
Paradise Beach run out of water in July and often experiences pressure problems.
Currently only 8 % of the National Budget is allocated to Provinces and Municipalities.
