The DA in Nelson Mandela Bay has reached a multiparty coalition agreement with the United Democratic Movement, the African Christian Democratic Party and the Congress of the People.
This will enable the party to gain a majority of seats in the Council and they will be able to elect Athol Trollip as the next Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay.
“Residents have voted for change and given us a mandate to form a government and work together to stop corruption, create jobs and deliver better services to all,” said Trollip.
“The cooperating parties in this agreement have committed to being partners in this government to give effect to our local government manifesto promises.
We look forward to formally ratifying this government at today’s council sitting,” added Trollip.
In the Eastern Cape, the DA now governs the Kouga Municipality, where Elza Van Lingen will be elected as Mayor at a Council meeting tomorrow, as well as the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
