‘Blade Runner’ Oscar Pistorius’ possible release from Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria has been delayed again‚ this time on the recommendation of the Parole Review Board.
Pistorius’ brother Carl took the rare step of commenting on social media‚ tweeting: “The parole review board refers the decision back to the parole board! What does that even mean?!”
Pistorius was expected to be freed on correctional supervision on the 21st August.
However‚ Justice and Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha referred the decision to release him for review by the parole board‚ after discovering the convicted killer had been considered for parole just six months into his five-year jail sentence‚ instead of after 10 months as the law requires.
Yesterday‚ the review board declined to free Pistorius.
It is not yet clear as yet when the parole board would again decide on the Paralympian’s case.
Meanwhile‚ the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein will hear the state’s appeal against Pistorius’s culpable homicide conviction on November 3.
The state wants him convicted of the more serious crime of murder for killing his girlfriend‚ Reeva Steenkamp‚ in the early hours of Valentines Day in 2013.
