The Bulls hit their straps in Port Elizabeth when they defeated the Southern Kings 34 – 0 over the weekend. In a brutal display of traditional Blue Bull rugby, the men from Pretoria are now at the top of the log in the South African Super Rugby conference with 28 points.
Dominated up front by the Bulls pack, the Kings were on the back foot for most of the game, with Jan Serfontein and Morne Steyn dictating play in the Bulls back line. Pierre Spies had one of his best performances of the season and cerainly led from the front.
Serfontein crossed for the first try and Steyn had a great game with the boot, which led to the Bulls leading 20 – 0 at the half time break.
Not even the ardent support of the 44 000 supports could help the Kings, who never came close to scoring in the game.
After the break, the Kings played well to contain the Bulls, with no additional scoring until Jacques Potgieter crashed over in the 76th minute of the game.
Akona Ndungane scored the bonus point try for the Bulls as the hooter sounded to give the visiting team a comprehensive 34 – 0 victory.
