Following the success the Police and Community Police Forum (CPF) have had in reducing crime in Wavecrest, other suburbs in the town are now being targeted by criminals.
There has been an upswing in crime in Pellsrus in particular while Aton Bay and Paradise Beach are also experienced an increase in house breakings and theft out of motor vehicles as well as the theft of motor vehicles.
The Police Crime Prevention Unit has been active in Wavecrest over the past month and the results are starting to show. Very little crime was reported from the suburb over the weekend, whilst over the past week, more crime has been committed in the usually quiet suburbs of Aston Bay and Paradise Beach.
The CPF will be working with the neighbourhood watches in these suburbs to ensure criminals do not gain the upper hand. The active community involvement, together with more Police presence in these suburbs will ensure that crime is quickly reduced.
Assaults are still being contained in the town, with shebeens again being visited over the weekend and fines issued to those breaking the law.
A big haul of 1/2 kg of dagga was uncovered in Pellsrus and the Police made two arrests in this case. The suspects were also found to be in possession of illegal ammunition. A number of arrests were also made in house breaking cases which should also go a long way in reducing the crime in Jeffreys Bay.
