What a game!! Some of the best players in the world did not disappoint in the final of the Champions League last night as Barcelona, lead up front by a mercurial Lionel Messi.
The striker from Argentina was in sublime form and scored a goal in the second half. Messi also set up the third goal as he surged into the box and, though the ball was half-cleared, it went straight to Villa who curling a superb 18 meter shot into the top corner.
The New York Times reported that the victory fueled a debate about whether Barcelona was the one of the best teams in football history, quoting Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson’s reply: “In my time as manager, yes.”
Not even a great equalizer from Wayne Rooney in the first half could help the Man United cause and after a promising start they were slowly throttled by Barcelona
The second half belonged entirely to Barcelona as they played to a magnificent victory in a game where soccer was the winner.
