Another lay day at the JBay Open

Small surf on offer at Jeffreys Bay has prompted event organisers to call a lay day at the JBay Open, stop No. 6 on the 2016 Samsung Galaxy World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT).

“We’re still looking at a smaller swell this morning so we are off for the day,” said WSL Commissioner Kieren Perrow. “We’re still tracking a swell for later this week, but we’ll come back tomorrow to have another look.”

The next call on when to restart competition will be announced at 8.30 am on Wednesday morning on the Dawn Patrol show on the live webcast (www.worldsurfleague.com) and on the WSL App.

When competition resumes, 11-time WSL Champion Kelly Slater (USA) will face Josh Kerr (AUS), Julian Wilson (AUS) will take on 2014 WSL Champion Gabriel Medina (BRA) and three-time WSL Champion Mick Fanning (AUS) will battle Filipe Toledo (BRA).

Surfline, official forecaster for the World Surf League, are calling for:

Smaller leftovers from the SSW for Tuesday. A modest bump of new SW swell will fill in on Wednesday but looks better Thursday.

However, local wind looks problematic at that time with onshore flow on Wednesday and side shore / northerly winds on Thursday.

Confidence is gradually increasing for a stronger swell that fills in on Friday and continues into Saturday before gradually fading.
