Record entry for the Quiksilver & Roxy JBay Junior Pro

A record entry has been received by Surfing South Africa for the inaugural Quiksilver and Roxy J-Bay Junior Pro which is scheduled to take place on at Magnatubes in Jeffreys’s Bay from July 8th to 10th.

The 3A Rated Surfing South Africa PST event, which offers R 22 000 in prize money and prizes will feature over 100 of the country’s best junior girls and boys competing in U12, U14, U16 and U18 Divisions.

The Quiksilver and Roxy J Bay Junior Pro takes its place alongside an array of sporting events including the WSL JBay Open of Surfing, Oakley’s X-Over Championships as well as open water swimming, fishing and music events.

The JBay Winterfest runs from Wednesday 6 July to Sunday 17 July and tens of thousands of spectators are expected to converge upon the popular coastal town of Jeffreys Bay.

The fact that competitors also get to watch the world’s best at the JBay Open at the Supertubes is a huge bonus.”

The contest has attracted 32 surfers in the premier U18 Boys Division where Jake Elkington, Ford Van Jaarsveldt (both Kommetjie) and Adin Masencamp (Strand) are the top three seeds.

Others to watch in this Division are current South Africa U17 Champion Jordy Maree (Kalk Bay), J Bay local Joshe Faulkner and Bevan Willis (Salt Rock).

Max Elkington (Kommetjie), JBay local Dillon Hendricks and Bryce du Preez (East London) are the top seeded U16 Division surfers.

Mitch Du Preez (East London), Nate Spalding (Durban) and winner of the last PST event, Manoa Robb (Kommetjie) are the in form U14 boys while the talented Daniel Emslie (East London), Christian Venter (Melkbosstrand), Luke Thompson (Durban) and previous PST contest winner, Alex Townsend (Kommetjie) are the favourites in the U12 Division.

In the Roxy Junior Pro U18 division, Natasha Van Greunen (Muizenberg), Sophie Bell (Salt Rock),Kai Woolf (Jeffreys Bay) and Danica Stockigt are the top seeds. Bell, Kayla Nogueira (Umhlanga), Olivia Izzard (La Lucia) and Woolf head the U16 group.

Nogueira Gabi Lailvaux (Westbrook) and S’Nenhlanhla Makhubu are the top seeds in the U14 Girls Division.

Surfing gets underway on Friday June 8th at 8.00am with the finals expected to take place on Sunday June 10th from 11am to 2.00pm.
