Sections of Da Gama Road and St Francis Street were blocked off on Friday by marching Municipal workers who then met in the Newton Hall.
The exact nature and reasons for the march are unclear but included demands that contract workers who have been employed for longer than three months, be appointed by the Kouga Municipality on a permanent basis.
The march was organised by the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) and appears to form part of the Union’s Red Friday campaign building up to the local elections.
Bizarrely enough, the ANC accused the DA of exploiting Kouga Municipal workers in “the DA run Municipality”.
Yet the ANC controls the Kouga 15-14 in the Council.
