The sun rises over the ocean at Cape St Francis in the Eastern Cape.
Seafarer Manuel Perestrelo visited Cape St Francis in 1575 and named it Bahia de Sao Francisco.
Prior to the late 1870s, when the Seal Point lighthouse was built, the deadly 2 km long reef running from near Cape St Francis into the ocean claimed a number of passing ships.
Today Cape St Francis is a favoured holiday destination and there are local residents who live in the village all year round.
