Fisherman gets washed out to sea at Kabeljous Beach

Late yesterday afternoon, the Jeffreys Bay NSRI received a call, reporting a drowning at Kabeljous.

The incident took place about 2 km down the beach from Kabeljous, in the direction of the Gamtoos River.

When the NSRI arrived at Kabeljous, it was reported the fisherman was already safely back to shore.

It was established that the fisherman, on holiday from Uitenhage, had gone into the surf to cast his bait, and had been washed off his feet and then pulled out to sea by a rip current.

His friends who were with him had cast in a line which he was able to get hold of, and they pulled him back onto shore.

The NSRI made sure that Mr Lessing was in good health and didn’t need any further assistance.
