All eyes will be on Kalk Bay this weekend as a promising swell is developing which could see the Monster Kalk Bay Shootout take place.
The Shootout is an annual surf event that takes place at Kalk Bay reef during the biggest and best day of the year.
The contest is a truly unique event as it incorporates both surfers and body boarders, surfing not only in the same event, but in the same heat.
“We are currently tracking a rather large swell coming up from the Antarctic which is due to swing South on Saturday.” said event organizer Andrew Wilsnagh.
South swells are one of the preferred swell directions for Kalk Bay reef as they end up being bigger and it usually affords all competitors multiple rides in heats as opposed to one or two rides.
“If the swell behaves as depicted by the charts and the wind doesn’t come up too much we should see an incredible start to the Monster Kalk Bay Shootout on Saturday or possibly Sunday.
According to the charts right now, we may witness some solid six foot, maybe even bigger waves breaking at Kalk Bay Reef on Saturday.” added Wilsnagh.
