The proposed multi-million Rand new council chambers will make way for a much needed electrical line, as well as a new community hall.
At a council meeting held in Jeffreys Bay last Friday, it was agreed upon that the R6.5 million budgeted for a new Council Chamber, is unnecessary.
Some R3 million will now be used towards the installation of the main 66kv electrical line from Melkhout to Jeffreys Bay that supplys the town with power.
The remaining R3 million will be used to construct a community hall in Kwa-Nomzamo in Humansdorp.
Councillor Juline Prinsloo queried whether the money would not be better put to use by upgrading the existing halls, however she was criticised by ANC councillors that she does not know the needs of the community as she does not live there.
Councillor Ben Rheeder, furthermore, insisted that a R1 million capital project be identified and implemented in Sea Vista, St Francis Bay. This was agreed upon by the entire Council
