The Hawks have seized heroin with a street value of more than R 7 million at an upmarket home in Ramsgate on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.
Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane says ten people between the ages of 22 and 29 were arrested. Zwane says after months of intense investigation by the Hawks, they discovered that a Durban-based syndicate had moved to South Coast.
He says the Hawks, assisted by the police’s National Intervention Unit, raided the Ramsgate house and recovered about R120 000 ready packed straws of heroin and eight kilograms of unpacked heroin.
The ten suspects were expected to appear in court soon.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the Police officers for their outstanding work that led to the arrest and recovery of drugs in South Coast area.
“I also encourage the members of the community to continue providing valuable information to the police about drug activities in their areas,” she said.
