Despatch Police arrest man for Perjury and theft

Despatch police have arrested a 55-year old man on charges of perjury and theft.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Gerda Swart, says the man was arrested on Thursday following an armed robbery that was reported earlier this week.

She says according to the man’s statement to the police, he was held at gunpoint on Monday at a shop where he is employed and robbed of R 10 000.

Swart says upon further investigation, police discovered that the second hand shop in Despatch was never robbed.

The suspect is due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates court today.
