The library is being relocated as part of the Kouga Municipality’s cost-cutting measures.
“We want to use the existing library for offices, instead of having to rent additional offices at large cost,” says municipal spokesperson, Laura-Leigh Randall.
According to Randall, the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) will convert the Ski Boat Club into a library.
“This will happen in the DSRAC’s 2015/ 2016 financial year, which starts in April next year,” says Randall.
“We do not expect the proximity of the sea to have an impact on the books. The department will see to it that all necessary measures are in place should any be necessary.”
According to Randall, the cost and details of the conversion are being finalised by the department in conjunction with the municipality.

Library members will be allowed to take out ten books during the week of November 24 – 27 and may return books by depositing them into the after-hour deposit box at the current library. No fines will be levied for late returns over the period of closure.
The owners of the Jeffreys Bay Ski Boat Club were given a written notice in January 2013 by the municipality, informing them about the termination of their contract.
They were given three months to vacate their premises since the piece of land is required for municipal services.
