Over 500 delegates from all over the Eastern Cape gathered at Jeffreys Bay for the DA provincial congress today.
Athol Trollip, the provincial leader described the Kouga as the new political frontier as the 2014 election looms with the DA poised to take over the Municipality.
“We are drawing a blue line in the Eastern Cape and we will bring Western Cape style government to Kouga, as well as other municipalities in the Eastern Cape,” said Trollip.
“Let the watchword of all our people be the old familiar watch words of honesty, decency, fair dealing and common sense.
We must treat each man on his worth and merits as a man. We must see that each is given a “square deal”, because he is entitled to no more and should receive no less.
The welfare of each of us is dependant fundamentally upon the welfare of all of us,” added Trollip.
The DA offers an equal opportunity society for all South Africans and Trollip quoted the words of Oliver Tambo.
“It is our responsibility to break down barriers of division and create a country where there will be neither whites nor blacks, just South Africans, free and united in diversity”
Yet under ANC rule, our society is becoming more and more polarized, concluded Trollip.
The congress ends tomorrow at Mentors Kraal in Jeffreys Bay.
