She successfully investigated 13 cases which resulted in life sentences for rapes of women and children.
When asked what her recipe for success in her work is, Detective Warrant Officer  answers without hesitation: “I put myself mentally on the crime scene and it also helps immensely to build and maintain a good relationship with the victims and their loved ones.
Even if a case is concluded victims always keep me informed of how they are doing and coping with their ordeal when we meet in town.”

Warrant Officer Nel joined the South African Police Service at Ladybrand District Office in 1991.
She completed a BA degree in Criminal Profiling and joined the Bethlehem Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
She had also been awarded earlier on Free State provincial level for her success in investigations of crime against women and children.
