Swim the 5 Km Plett Spring Pulse

Celebrate spring by swimming the Plettenberg Bay Spring Pulse, from the mouth of the Keurbooms River to the Ferry Terminal at the N2 bridge.

The 5 K swim current assisted swim will take place on 6 September and will start at 13:15, so swimmers will be able to take full advantage of the high tide pulse that will push them upriver towards the finish.
In its third year of existence, the Plett Spring Pulse is a perfect event to prepare for all the summer swims that lay ahead for South African open water swimmers.
Particpants will literally ride the force of the pulsing spring tide up the lagoon from start to finish.
While the distance is around five kilometres, the force of the incoming tide pushes at an average of over two kilometres per hour.
Still a swim not to be underestimated, but achievable for most open water swimmers.

Assisted swimming will be allowed, with swimmers wearing wetsuits or flippers starting 5 minutes behind the speedo, goggles and cap swimmers.
The cost of the swim is R 100 and only pre entries will be accepted due to safety requirements that will be needed on the water.
Entries are open at www.swimmingplus.com
The swim happens an hour before high tide, allowing swimmers to ‘fly’ right over the sand banks in deep water.
“It is a group swim, so while swimmers are welcome to race the pulse, there will be a group accompanying the slowest swimmer. Wetsuit swimmers are welcome; the water temp is usually around 15/16 degrees at this time of the year,” said event organiser Kyle Harris.
