Police fire warning shot and arrest suspects in Wavecrest

Social media was abuzz yesterday morning with reports of gun shots being heard in Wavecrest, with dogs barking and lots of commotion in the early hours of the morning.

W/O Seekoei from the South African Police has confirmed that the police received a tip off about suspects with possible stolen property.
“The Police reacted and saw two suspects with the possible stolen items. They then fired a warning shot in order to apprehend the suspects,” said Seekoei.
No persons were injured or any property damaged during the incident.
Two suspects  24 years old and 25 years old were arrested on  a charge of Possession of Stolen Property, while Police recovered property to the value of R10 000 during the arrest.
The suspects will appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s court soon.
Wavecrest resident Geoffrey Bennet tells us what he experienced during the incident.
“I am so glad that the Police were there when the criminals jumped over the back wall and trapped themselves in the back yard of the house I am staying in.
I  heard one gun shot, lots of screaming, shouting and the sound of the criminals trying to kick down the security gate to get away from the Police,” said Bennet.
The DA has demanded that the Minister of Police release crime stats for Jeffreys Bay so that residents can adequately protect themselves from the seemingly non stop cycle of house breaking’s that  is currently taking place in Jeffreys Bay.
“Crime is on the increase in Kouga and the DA has called on the Minister of Police to immediately release the crime stats for all the Police stations in the Kouga, but particularly Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp and St Francis Bay,” said Elza Van Lingen from the DA.
