A brazen thief, armed with a knife, got more than he bargained for when he entered a house in Tulip street in broad daylight yesterday.

The owner of the house and her domestic worker were both at home when the thief scaled an outer wall, a courtyard wall and then simply walked into the house.

However, the women turned the tables on the thug when a fight broke out as they tried to protect themselves and flee from the robber.

One of the women was cut on her hand during the fight but luckily there were no serious injuries.

The Jeffreys Bay Police responded rapidly to the crises and arrested the criminal, who is now in custody.

“I want to thank the Jeffreys Bay Police for their assistance, they were fantastic even though they had so much work to do with all the other house robberies in the town,” said the resident who was attacked in her own home.

Armand Bester said that there was also a beggar asking for bread at his Karee Street house and it is suspected that the thieves obtain their information from these beggars, who have been spotted making call on cell phones immediately after leaving a property.

Residents are urged to be aware of who is lurking around in their suburbs and to report any suspicious behaviour to the Jeffreys Bay Police.
