There is something for everyone this July in Jeffreys Bay as the town prepares itself for a Winter Fest that is growing in stature every year.
The anchor event is the JBay Open of Surfing, which has been upgraded to a World Championship Tour (WCT) event.
This means all the best surfers in the world will once again be in Jeffreys Bay during July.
Crowd favourites like Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, Jordy Smith and Joel Parkinson will do battle at Supertubes as they all via for the World Championship title.
There are no less than 11 Winter Fest events that will take place from 10 -20 July at various locations in and around Jeffreys Bay.
The Jbay Open will kick things off with the waiting period starting on 10 July, with the Volkswagen Rally set to rev the town on 11 July.
The first ever national Kite Festival will take place on Kabeljous Beach on 12 – 13 July, as will the Winter Fest Skins Fishing Competition, which is also set for the same dates at Kabeljous Beach.
Spectators will also be entertained at the Core Downhill Sokkie Skate Jol, which will be taking place in St Croix Street on 12 July.
Marina Martinique will host the JBay Cold Water Swim Classic on 12 July as well. Swimmers will brave 12 degree C water in just speedo’s goggles and a swim cap for 7.5 km in the canals, with the Winter Fest Funduro rounding things off on the 12 July.
The Oakley X Over Challenge will take place from 15 – 16 July and will see a number of sporting legends like John Smit, Butch James, Dale Steyn and Bobby Skinstad participate in mountain biking and surfing events.
The JBay Mountain Bike Open will be held on 19 July up at the Fountains Mall while the Flamingo Trial Run will take place from the Supertubes Park on 20 July.
There will be plenty of night time entertainment with Jolly Dolphin hosting the Music Fest with a number of top South African bands expected to perform during July.
“There will probably be a couple more events being added before the Winter Fest, but the abovementioned events are confirmed and will be taking place at various venues around Jeffreys Bay,” said Koffie Jacobs, one of the Festival organisers.
