Wiehahn wins 3 Beaches Challenge

Nelson Mandela Bay’s Wesley Wiehahn led from start to finish to claim his first City Lodge Hotels Group 3 Beaches Challenge title in absolutely perfect conditions on Sunday morning.

Wiehahn, a top Eastern Province open water swimmer, completed the exciting 4-leg race in a fast time of 1 hour 1min as participants swam from Pollok Beach through to Kings Beach, having to exit the water and round designated transition areas at each of the beaches along the route before running back to Pollok Beach.

Over 200 participants took part on Sunday morning within the various categories which included individuals, relay teams of two and relay teams of four.

The individual category was the most competitive with Gawie Henning coming through 2nd behind Wiehahn followed by PJ Duffy in 3rd place.

Antonella Saporta caused an upset on the morning as she beat the twice defending champion, Liza Bright, by almost 2 minutes.

Saporta who has had an exceptional season in the Ocean Racing Series this year, finished in a time of 1hr 8min followed by Bright with Sanmari Woithe in 3rd place.

In the relay teams division, the Duo-team category was won by Miles Rosser and Keith Buhr in a time of 58 minutes from the all ladies team of Margie Saunders and Tracy Gous whilst Mark and Gail Willimott finished 3rd overall.
