Leading up to the festival, all the lampposts will be wrapped in blue and white, and the Kouga Municipality has agreed to bring back the nautical themed Christmas Lights for the duration of the festival.

nautical capitalThe festival committee is hard at work to create an all inclusive program to suit the tastes of all ages, shapes and sizes. The committee invites all businesses, groups and organizations to grab this opportunity to jump on board and take part to make money or create awareness for your cause – as long as it fits the theme, and doesn’t clash with another event.

The festival will kick off with an open day at Port St Francis. Stalls will open at 10:00 and entertainment includes a Kids Zone and Fun Hour, the Miss Nautical Pagent with categories in all ages, an NSRI and aerial fire fighting demonstration as well as a penguin release, to list but a few.

There will be a calamari cleaning and cooking demonstration, tea garden, beer tent, art workshops and gallery. Sportspeople can look forward to participate in a paddling event, a jetski run, as well as a swimming event around the jetties, including the Port St Francis Mile.

Visitors will be able to view a working chokka boat and visit normally restricted areas on the harbour, as well as a few show units on the residential side of the Port. Charter companies will offer special rates on yacht and bay cruises, while the men can enjoy a Boat Show.

Anglers of all kinds can compete in the St Francis Rod, Reel and Boat Fishing Competition with prizes for the biggest rock and surf, river, deep sea or spear caught fish. The combined weigh-in will take place at 16:00. The young children can take part in the very popular catch and release fishing competition off the jetties mid day.
