The exciting news that the JBay Open of surfing has been upgraded to a WCT event will bring even more feet to the surf town of Jeffreys Bay during the annual Winter Fest.
The world’s top surfers like Kelly Slater. Mick Fanning, Jon Jon Florence and Jordy Smith will once again have the opportunity to surf Supertubes, one of the finest waves in the world, in their quest to be crowned world surf champion.
The Winter Fest will take place from 10 – 20 July and in addition to the JBay Open, the highly popular Volkswagen Rally will take place in and around Jeffreys Bay on 11 July.
Oakley will also be bringing some of South Africa’s sporting greats to Jeffreys Bay to take part in a two day cross over event.
A few rugby and cricket legends will paddle into the line-up at Supertubes to take part in a celebrity heat on one of the lay days of the JBay Open.
Jolly Dolphin, a popular night club in Jeffreys Bay have confirmed that they will be hosting a music fest as part of the JBay Winter Fest.
Top South African bands will provide the night time entertainment for all the athletes taking part in the Winter Fest, as well as the thousands of spectators that will flock to JBay in July.
“The Winter Fest is going to be way bigger and better than last year with great events taking place during July in JBay,” said Winter Fest spokesperson Brenton Williams.
“In addition to the upgraded JBay Open and the VW Rally, the skins fishing competition, Mountain Bike event, Kite Festival, trail run, Enduro, skating event and a cold water swim are all confirmed events for 2014.,” added Williams.
Jeffreys Bay in July is normally cold and windy, so participants as well spectators can look forward to extreme events with Ugg boots, jackets and beanies being standard items of clothing during the Winter Fest.
