An Eastern Cape farmer was shot and killed on his farm Roodepoort, in the Barkly East district on Tuesday night.
The South African Police say they’re following up on several leads in the murder.
61-year old Sarel Pretorius and his 55-year old wife Annemarie were confronted by two suspects on their farm and one of the suspects took Annemarie into the house and forced her to hand over cash, a firearm and a cell phone.
The other suspect held her husband at gunpoint.
A shot was fired, hitting Sarel Pretorius who died at the scene.
His wife was tied up in the bathroom but managed to untie herself and raise the alarm.
“It is with great sorrow that the DA mourns the death of Mr. Pretorius and we are grateful that Mrs. Pretorius was not injured”, said Elza Van Lingen, the leader of the DA in Kouga.
“We extend our condolences to the Pretorius family, and wish Mrs. Pretorius a speedy recovery”, added Van Lingen.
