The IEC has announced that the bi-elections in Hankey and Humansdorp will be held on 27 November. These bi-elections are to fill the vacancies left by the recent deaths of Councillors Groep and Ntshiza.
Should the DA win both wards, the Kouga will once again become a DA run Municipality.
The embattled Kouga Municipality needs a breathe of fresh air and many residents are hoping that a regime change will take place come 27 November.
The DA has announced that former Mayor of Hankey, Otto Williams, will stand as their candidate in Ward 9 (Hankey). Desmond Pietersen was also introduced by DA Leader Athol Trollip as the candidate in Ward 5 (Humansdorp) at a meeting in Jeffreys Bay yesterday.
There is no reason why the Kouga Municipality should be lurching from one crises to the next. Realistically, it should be one of the strongest rural Municipality’s in South Africa.
Residents from all communities are complaining about a decline in the level and quality of service delivery, which has led to protest marches in several of the towns that form the wider Kouga region.
