A night out on the town last Saturday evening nearly became deadly for a well known Jeffreys Bay resident when he was accosted and assaulted on the Main Beach.
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, had enjoyed an evening at one of the local nightclubs and the group he was with decided to walk home along the beach to check out the surf.
“We were past the Times Square building when I felt the presence of somebody behind me. I turned around and asked what he wanted and he replied in Afrikaans that “I mustn’t worry about him”, said the resident.
“The next thing it felt like my shirt was being lifted up and purely on instinct, I twisted my body away as the attacker stabbed me. He got one shot in near my kidneys but luckily the momentum of me twisting caused the knife to just pierce my back and not go to deep into my body”.
“I turned to chase the attacker but he ran away and we went home to staunch the bleeding. Luckily the wound was not too deep and I am grateful I was able to turn away from him when he attacked, otherwise things might have been a lot worse”.
JBay residents are urged to take care when walking on the beach late at night and to always be aware of their surroundings.
The old Jbay where locals could sleep on the beach at night or even walk to Aston Bay along the road or beach are sadly long gone.
