Paradise Beach residents breathed a sigh of relief as work started on manually opening the mouth of the Seekoei River yesterday.
Construction on the causeway linking Ason Bay to Paradise Beach had been halted due to high water levels in the Seekoei estuary.
Late last week, Environmental Affairs granted permission to manually open the mouth, subject to certain criteria that the Kouga Municipality was able to meet.
The contractor hopes to be able to drop the water level to enable him to finish replacing the damaged culverts supporting the causeway.
Paradise Beach residents have been up in arms over the delays in fixing the causeway, going as far as saying that the Kouga Municipality is declaring civil war on them.
