A massive bush fire broke out yesterday afternoon on the outskirts of Jeffreys Bay and that took fire fighters from all over the district to extinguish the blaze.
The R 102 was engulfed in plumes of smoke that made driving dangerous.
The fire, which was close to the Kabeljous River took hours to get under control, with Kouga Municipality fire fighters working alongside local farmers as well as the Cacadu District Fire Unit.
A strong westerly wind picked up in the afternoon, which made the fire even more difficult to control.
The weather has been exceptionally hot over the past few days, which has increased the risk of veld fires in the district.
Cooler conditions are expected over the weekend, with strong westerly winds tomorrow. The surf is expected to pretty good on Sunday.
