Lochte ( 4:12:35) backed off on the freestyle leg but Chad deserves full credit for bringing it back hard on the freestyle lag and being in a position to even catch the American swimmer.

The final of the 400m IM will be swam this evening and promises to be a fine race with no firm favourite to win.

Michael Phelps will take it out from the front in the butterfly and will try set the pace throughout the swim. Chad le Clos will be up there in the fly and will have a strong finish in the freestyle. Ryan Lochte looked very sharp and will be in the top three finishers no matter what happens in London tonight.
