All Blacks captain Richie McCaw, who played in his 106th test match, also became the most successful player in the history of the game with the recent 60 – 0 victory over Ireland.
McCaw now stands on 94 test wins from 106 internationals.
McCaw overtook the Wallabies record holder George Gregan, with the two players tied on 93 test wins, but the All Blacks victory gave McCaw sole rights to the record.
Gregan notched his over a 139 test reign, so McCaw has hit the record 33 tests ahead of the experienced Australian and Brumbies number nine.
The win for the All Blacks in Hamilton will not gain them any ranking points in the International Board positions, but will ensure they remain number one until the Rugby Championship (former Tri Nations) commences.
