DA marches through Jeffreys Bay on Youth Day

The Democratic Alliance took to the streets of Jeffreys Bay on Saturday morning to celebrate Youth Day. The march started in Ocean View, moved through Pellsrus and ended at the Newton Hall in the center of Jeffreys Bay.

About 200 marchers were joined by Councillors Mhomi Speelman, Danny Benson, Dave Alderndorff, Brenton Williams, Fred Campher, Eugene Group and Juline Prinsloo.

The purpose of the march was to highlight the serious problems facing students in South Africa today, 35 years after the youth took to the streets of Soweto to protest against inferior education”said Elza Van Lingen, the leader of the DA in the Kouga.

“We are committed to creating opportunities for our youth to study and to equip themselves so that they can truly have a bright future”.

Kouga is facing an education crises, like many other places in the Eastern Cape. The Graslagte school in Humansdorp closed for a few days in April and there is no high school in Jeffreys Bay. This causes many students to drop out of school after completing their primary education as they cannot afford to travel to Humansdorp to continue their education.
