NSRI comes to the rescue of distressed surfer at Supetubes

At lunchtime on Wednesday afternoon, the NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty crew responded to an emergency at Supertubes surf break, following reports of a surfer suspected to be in difficulty.

A sea rescue jet-ski was launched and a sea rescue quad bike dispatched and 24/7 paramedics also responded.

On arrival at Supertubes the surfer, Clinton Smithers, 35, from Salt Rock, Kwa-Zulu Natal, was found on the beach suffering a dislocated shoulder believed to have been sustained while surfing Super Tubes.

Smithers was treated on-scene by paramedics and transported to hospital in a stable condition.
