Dylan Lightfoot chosen for World Junior Surf Champs

Local Jeffreys Bay surfer Dylan Lightfoot has made a lot of waves in the surfing world in South Africa this year and has been chosen to compete in the ASP World Junior Championships.

Dylan Lightfoot is off to Bali for the World Junior surf Champs.

Dylan, who is only 16, has been chosen as one of the top four U 20 surfers in South Africa for the prestigious series.
“I am really stoked and things have gone very well this year with my surfing”, said Dylan. “The World Champs are a big step up and I have been training hard and am determined to surf well and represent J’Bay”.
A World Junior series is held every year and each country sends their top four U 20 juniors to these events.
This year the qualifying events took place in Durban (Quicksilver Pro Jnr) and in Victoria Bay (Billabong Pro jnr).
Three surfers dominated these events with Beyrick de vries winning both on both occasions. Dylan Lightfoot and Slade Prestwich slotted into the the 2nd and 3rd slots respectively.
The fourth spot was fought out right to the final of the Billabong Pro jnr with Michael February taking it over Nick Godfrey. Dale Staples from St Francis Bay qualified for the World Juniors through the World Qualifying Series to attend these events.

The ASP Junior World Championship events will take in Bali from the 3rd to 14th October with the second event being held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil from the 24TH October to the 2nd November. The final event will take place in Australia in January 2012.
Lightfoot, who is coached by Graham Hyndes will be leaving for Bali on Tuesday. Go Dyl……make us proud!!!!
