Miss Earth Eastern Cape to be crowned in Jeffreys Bay

Young, environmentally aware women between 18 and 26 will soon battle it out for the title of Miss Earth Eastern Cape.
The unique beauty pageant has been running for nine years nationally but 2011 will be the first time there will be a Miss Earth Eastern Cape pageant and it will take place in Jeffreys Bay.

Catherine Constantinides from Miss Earth visited Jeffreys Bay for the launch.

Miss Earth South Africa 2003 winner and national director Catherine Constantinides said she was an environmentalist at heart and winning the 2003 pageant was an amazing opportunity.
“This is a leadership initiative for young South African women and gives them a platform to be leaders in their communities,” said Constantinides.
One of 100 contestants in the 2003 competition, Constantinides said the pageant was not just about beauty. “It is more than just being about beauty and being glamorous.
“It’s more about the legacy that we will leave behind, what we can do for the environment, it’s about substance and integrity. “It is more about real issues. It is not just about the title.”

The pageant will form part of the Jeffreys Bay Dive Festival later this year.
The Miss Earth Eastern Cape pageant final will be held from September 30 to October 2, and the contestants will be judged according to their environmental awareness.
Entries will open 1st August 2011 and will be online here
