Gold for Cameron van der Burgh in Spain

South Africa claimed another gold medal and a Championships Record as the SA swim team completed the final day of the Mare Nostrum Barcelona leg on Sunday.
In the 50m breaststroke, Cameron van der Burgh broke James Gibson’s 2003 Championships Record of 23.71 when he raced to the finish line in a phenomenal time of 23.56 ahead of Norway’s Alexander Dale Oen in 28.04 and Romania’s Dragos Agache in 28.16.

Cameron van der Burg won gold in the 50 m breastroke in Spain.

In the first race of the finals, Myles Brown finished 7th in the 1500m freestyle with a time of 15:40.69. Karen Prinsloo ended 8th in the 50m backstroke in 29.36 while Vanessa Mohr swam to a 5th place in the 50m butterfly with a time of 27.10.
It was 4th position once again for Chad le Clos, this time in the 400m individual medley. Le Clos ended in a time of 4:20.27. In the 100m backstroke, Charl Crous came in 7th with a time of 55.85 while Jean Basson finished 8th in the 200m freestyle in 1:51.05.
Natalie du Toit powered to 4th place in the 10 K extreme swim event in Spain.

Natalie du Toit had a strong race in the 10 K extreme swim and finished in 4th place.
The South African swimming team is now in Canet to compete in the Mare Nostrum leg on the 8th and 9th June.
