EP Champs in J'Bay this weekend

The Eastern Province Open Water Swim Championships will be taking place over the weekend at Marina Martinique.
Swimmers will have a choice of competing in the grueling 10 Km swim or the 3 Km on Saturday afternoon with the 5 km and 1 Km events taking place on Sunday morning
The increasingly popular 500m and bank to bank swims will be held on Sunday morning as well.

There will be lots of swim action for the whole family at the Marina Martinique this weekend.

Michael Marais will be keen to defend his 10 Km title as well Jessica Roux, who is nursing two broken toes but will be swimming in the prestigious Championships. Chris Van Der Sande, will be keen to add the 10 Km crown to his growing list of events that he has won in the current season.
Local swimmer Brenton Williams, who is the defending Masters Champ in the 10 Km event is recovering from an injury picked up while swimming a 25 Km race as part of the Steers Marina Mile Festival in December and will be using the 10 Km as part of the rehabilitation process.
“I injured a tendon in my forearm which normally takes a long time to heal but it has responded fantastically well to treatment from my Physiotherapist Yolande Oostuizen and we both feel that it’s time to swim some distance again but won’t be looking at a fast race”, said Williams.
Van Der Sande will be in action in the 5 Km event on Sunday and based on current form, will be hard to beat while Jessica Roux may have her work cut out to hold off a challenge from swimmers who will be visiting from other provinces for the event.

The 1 Km events will be wide open and there are no clear favourites although sprint king Wesley Wiehahn will be keen to take the title in the mens race.
Swimmers from the Kouga Swim Club have been dominating the 500m and bank to bank swims this season so far with Danie and Pieter Ellis both determined to win the event. Michelle Strydom and Becky Baard will be the girls to watch in the women’s race.
Entries can be done online at EC Swim website . No qualifying swims are necessary to enter the EP Champs.
The Kouga Swim Club will be holding a training session at 4 Pm on Friday afternoon for those swimmers who want to find out what the course will be for the event and want to get in a final training session. They will be meeting at the entrance gate at Marina Martinique.
