A local resident had a terrifying experience in the car park of the Equinox Mall yesterday morning when a knife wielding street child tried to attack her while she was packing groceries into her car.
The woman, who chooses to remain unnamed said she was putting packets of groceries into the boot of the car around 08H30 yesterday morning when she heard a commotion near the cars parked in front of her. “I didn’t take notice and closed the boot and started walking towards the drivers side door of my car when this child came at me. He was swearing at me and when I asked him what was going on, he pulled a knife on me.”
“Luckily I had the presence of mind to quickly open the drivers door and used the door as a barricade between the attacker and myself. He couldn’t get around the door and the car parked next to me thank goodness. I then got into the car and slammed the door closed and drove away. I am just grateful that my kids were not with me as I don’t know what I would have done then”.
The Community Police Forum (CPF) has found out that another woman was harassed by the same street child at in the car park yesterday. He was wearing a green t shirt and khaki pants and is around 12 years of age. Women, in particular are urged to be vigilant and to ask the center’s security to accompany them to their car if in doubt.
