Thousands of U2 fans buy tickets for SA concerts

Jeffreys Bay fans of mega rock group U2 made sure they bought their tickets on Saturday morning after ticket sales opened at 9 am. Computicket at Checkers was busy as fans realised that the internet website of Computicket had crashed with the thousands of U2 followers trying to secure their tickets.

The general standing tickets for both the Johannesburg and Cape Town concerts were the most popular and sold out first as die hard fans wanted to get up close to the action on the 360 tour.


170 000 tickets were available for the two concerts in South Africa as U2 are due to play for the first time since the PopMart tour in 1998. By Saturday afternoon 95 % of the tickets had been sold.

Fans from all over South Africa lined up at Computickes to get their tickets. Long queues formed inb Cape Town, Kynsna, East London and even Jeffreys Bay as people realised that the concerts were going to sell out quickly.

By the time U2 arrive in South Africa 4.5 million fans would have seen the 360 degree tour live.
