Reece set for Feb 2011 Marrow Transplant


It is all systems go for Reece Smit to undergo the bone marrow transplant that will save the 5 year old boy’s life.

The funds necessary to save Reece’s life have just about being raised with donations up to R 320 000 by the weekend.

“We are so thankful for all the kindness we have experienced as a family”, said Vicky Smit from Cape Town where tests where being done on Reece.

“The doctors we met, especially Dr Desai from Red Cross Hospital is the best ever. We also met up with the ladies that found a donor for Reece in Germany”.

Reece was diagnosed with Faconi Anemia which causes bone marrow failure and needs to have a bone marrow transplant in order to survive.

“It was difficult to meet children that have just had a bone marrow transplant- my heart broke for them and it is going to be a hard road ahead for us as a family, added Vicky.

“Reece will get his transplant in February 2011, so we just want him  to enjoy every day to the fullest right now.”

With only R 30 000 still required to cover the costs involved with the transplant, the Smit family once again want to thank the people from all over the world who have helped to give Reece the life saving operation he needs.
