Marina Canals are finally all open

The last remaining barrier wall in the Marina Martinique was removed recently by Phase 2 developer James Hinton. Residents of the Marina now have close on a 4 km uninterrupted loop to enjoy on their boats and paddle crafts or for the more energetic to enjoy long loops to swim.

The opening of thefinal canal linking the original canal to the newly built Phase 2 canal is good news for swimming in the area. The Kouga Swim Club will be hosting the first ever 25K swim in the Marina as part of the expanded Jeffreys Bay Swim Festival, which will incorporate the highly popular Marina Mile.

There is only one 25K event in South Africa at present and that is the SA Champs that is held in February each year and the Marina 25K will be a perfect qualifying event for the SA Champs said local swim coach Brenton Williams. “The Swim Festival will be held over 2 days in December as part of our strategy on promoting Jeffreys Bay as being the open water swim capital of South Africa”, said Williams.
