Bailey leads Portugal onto the field at the World Cup


A love for soccer, a dog called Rooney and a mom that supported her all the way is how Bailey Robertson from St Francis  Bay became a player escort at the 2010 soccer World Cup.

Leading Portugal onto the field was a dream come true for Bailey and she said the atmoshere was electic at the Port Elizabeth staduim on Tuesday. “I didnt even feel the cold and it was awesome meeting some of my hero’s,” said Bailey afterwards.

Although Bailey, who is a student at Woodridge loves soccer, her actual sport is swimming and she can often be found churning out the lengths at the Training Edge in Jeffreys Bay. “I train with the Kouga Swim Club and just love to swim'” said Bailey. “My whole family loves water and I get to the training sessions as often as I can”.

 Meeting one of the stars of South African football, John “Shoes” Moshoeu was also a highlight of Bailey’s experience. Shoes was one of the key players in Bafana Bafana winning the 1996 African Cup of Nations and he often set things up from midfield for the strikers Mark Williams and Shaun Bartlett
