A total of 1 175 rhino were poached in South Africa in 2015, Environment Minister Edna Molewa said on Thursday.
Of these, 826 were in the Kruger National Park.
This compared with 1 215 at the end of 2014.
“For the first time in a decade, the poaching situation in South Africa has actually stabilised,” said Molewa in a briefing in Pretoria.
“In the face of an increased and relentless rise of poaching activity into protected areas, this is great news and cause for optimism,” she said.
Jeffreys Bay did not escape the scourge of Rhino poaching and three Rhino were slaughtered at the Lombardini Game Farm in May 2015.
Another Rhino was severely injured but managed to survive the attack.
