With the JBay Open of Surfing just over a month away and the waiting period for the JBU Supertrial starting today, Supertubes has been delivering the goods already.

Big powerful lines stacked up in the bay with Supertrialists like JBay local Remi Peterson clocking up serious barrel time as the winter swells battered the South African coastline.

The paddle out was not easy with big sets ensuring the impact zone sorted out the surfers who mistimed their entry into the line up.

Lots of local surfers were in the water with Dan Thornton getting plenty of waves as he warms up for the JBU Supertrial, presented by RVCA.

Another Supertrialist, Sean Holmes was also spotted on a couple of bombs over the weekend.

The winner of the JBU SUpertrial will win a wildcard slot into the JBay Open of Surfing, which takes place from 8 – 19 July at Supertubes.

JBay Winterfest organiser Koffie Jacobs said that there is a possibility the Supertrial will run later in the week.

“There is a big easterly swell predicted for Thursday/Friday which will make things interesting. We will keep an eye on the forecast and make a call closer to the time,” said Jacobs.
