A 23 year old woman who lives in a secure complex in Wavecrest was raped in the early hours of this morning by an intruder who gained access to her unit.

The incident occurred around 4 am after the suspect first gained access to another unit in the same complex and stole cash, a cell phone and cigarettes without waking up the occupants.

The suspect, then broke into the young woman’s flat and assaulted her and threatened her with a knife before taking her bank card and leaving her tied up and gagged. The woman, who is highly traumatized could only describe the rapist as being of slender build and he spoke Afrikaans.

The Jeffreys Bay Police have again requested that residents secure their premises and to make sure that windows are closed as night. Warrant Officer Petra Els said that even windows on the second story of houses need to be secured. “It is unbelievable where the criminals can gain access and it is nothing for them to climb up to a second story window and enter a premises”, she said.
