In 2011, skate competition will know no borders as Red Bull Manny Mania expands the global series to 34 countries (including 13 new nations). In South Africa, the competition has grown from one event in 2010 to five in four cities this year.

Cape Town skater Jean-Marc Johannes will be in J'Bay for the Red Bull Manny Mania

Skaters from Cape Town to J’Bay are invited to show their stuff as part of the largest amateur event of its kind in the country. The dates and locations for this year’s qualifying events in South Africa are:

• June 4: Son Skate Park (Stellenbosch)
• June 11: Element Skate Park (Jeffreys Bay)
• June 18: Wave House Skate Park, Gateway Theatre of Shopping, Umhlanga (Durban)
• June 25: Revolution Skate Park, Festival Mall, Kempton Park (Johannesburg)
• June 26: Finals – Revolution Skate Park, Festival Mall, Kempton Park (Johannesburg)

Each participating country will hold qualifying events, selecting athletes to participate in a national final; the winner of which will represent their homeland at the Red Bull Manny Mania World Final in New York City on 20 August 2011.
The winner of this event will get a chance to step into the big leagues by competing in the invite only Red Bull Manny Mania Pro Event, on 21 August in New York City.

‘TRICK-TIONARY’ AND JUDGES

For each event in South Africa there will be a panel of judges selecting the best athletes to compete in the finals, including three legends in the skater community: Puddy Zwenis, Adrian Day and Brendan Body, editor of Session skateboarding magazine.

Jean-Marc Johannes, a Red Bull sponsored skater from Cape Town, will accompany the judging panel across South Africa as an ambassador for the sport.

Jean-Marc will also feature in a ‘trick-tionary’ video showcasing what it takes to win at Red Bull Manny Mania, elements of which will be uploaded online in the weeks before and during the qualifying events in South Africa.
