12 South African surfers have been selected to compete in an international surfing contest in Reunion Island from October 14-16.

The SA Junior Invitation team is made up of surfers whose contest performances have impressed the national selectors over the last twelve months.

Bertie Stuurman has developed into a wily competitive surfer and will lead the SA charge in Reunion.

Heading the group is Jeffreys Bay surfer and Xcel Pro invitee Bertie Stuurman who, along with SA Championship runner up Alice McGregor of East London, will surf in the U/20 Boys and Girls Divisions respectively.

SA Grommet Games U/16 champion, Marshall Renz from J’Bay will be joining fellow local Emma Smith in the U/16 division.

Emma Smith is making waves in South African surfing with little sister Zoe who is also an avid surfer.

This is the second year Emma has made the team as she surfed against a visiting Reunion team in 2009. “I am very excited to make the team for the second year in a row”, said Emma. “This year we are going to travel to Reunion which makes it even more special”.

All three surfers have also been selected for the EP Junior surf team.
