Third Olympic gold medal for South Africa

Hot on the heels of Chad le Clos’ win in the 200-metre butterfly swimming event on Tuesday night, South Africa’s rowing team has sealed the country’s third gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics.

Sizwe Ndlovu, Matthew Brittain, John Smith and James Thompson finished first – in six minutes, 02.84 seconds – in the men’s lightweight four final on Thursday afternoon.

Britain came second, earning a silver medal and Denmark third, achieving a bronze medal.

Team SA’s first gold medal was earned by Cameron van der Burgh, who won gold in the 100m breaststroke on Sunday night.

Chad le CLos is on track to medal again tonight in the 100 m butterfly after qualifying with the second fastest time (51.42) for the final. Michael Phelps is the top qualifier with a fast time of 50.86
