Taxi protest on Aston Bay road

Rival taxi associations are sizing each other up in Jeffreys Bay, with one group barricading the entrance road to Ocean View with burning tyres this morning.

Tyres were also burning on the Aston Bay traffic circle, with part of the road being blocked off at one stage.

The Jeffreys Bay Police were swiftly on the scene and the situation remains calm but tense.

The Public Order Policing Unit is in Jeffreys Bay and is monitoring the area, should violence break out.

Motorists are urged to take care when using the road but at this stage, traffic is flowing freely.

According to reports, received a taxi association based in Port Elizabeth is trying to access the taxi routes in Jeffreys Bay, for which a local association has the license to operate the routes.
